Chili: January 30, 2008 at age 81. Survived by his loving wife Ellen Mary; sister-in-law, Betty A. Partigan; nieces, Carol A. Brayton, Donna M. (Harvey) Palmer; nephew, John (Kathy) Partigan; cousin, William (Mary) Reifsteck; several cousins, many good friends and neighbors in Rochester and Cape Vincent, NY.

During his 4 years at Charlotte High School, Gene was a superior athlete and received many awards and recognition for his outstanding sports accomplishments. He excelled in pitching and during his junior and senior years, Gene along with teammates won for Charlotte the City Championship and Sectional Finals for Baseball. In his senior year, he signed a contract with the NY Yankees, but his baseball career was interrupted by enlisting in the service.

He served 3 years with the 38th Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees) throughout the Pacific. Upon his return from serving, he played 3 seasons of professional baseball. He joined Kodak Park and retired at age 54 upon completion of 35 years of service.

He loved fishing in the Cape Vincent area and enjoyed all outdoor sport activity. Prior to his illness he actively participated in game preservation for Monroe Co. He was a member of the American Legion Watertown NY Chapter.

Friends may call Monday, February 4th 11 AM-12 PM at the funeral home of ALVAH HALLORAN AND SON, 2125 Chili Ave., where Services will commence at 12 PM. Interment, Mendon Cemetery.
