It is with great sadness that we announce the passing on Feb 13 of Ernie Kershaw, born in Ladner, BC Oct 6, 1909.

Survived by his devoted wife Audrey, and loving children Pauline (David), Ian and Diana (Paul) and grandchildren Jeremy (Jen), Joanna (Chris), Nicholas (Julia), Andrew, Julia (Chris) and Graham and three adorable great grand children.

Ernie has enjoyed a happy life of 102 years starting with his Tom Sawyer childhood in Ladner. After graduating in electrical engineering and education at UBC during the Depression, he became a math teacher in Mission and Smithers before teaching several generations of students at West Van High for 37 years. He was always a keen athlete and pitched professional baseball with the Vancouver Capilano's in the 1930's and 1940's.

After retiring from baseball, he was an avid tennis player until his 91st year. Ernie also served in the RCAF as a flight lieutenant during World War II teaching navigation.

His family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses, staff at LGH, support workers at Living Well, and Dr Kathleen Bell-Irving and her team.

A celebration of Ernie's life will be held at 2 pm on Monday Feb 20 at West Van United Church where Ernie and Audrey have been members since 1959.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Salvation Army are welcome.
