Haywood B. Kelly, Sr.,
85 of Tulsa, OK. Received the promise of his heavenly body on September
He was born on September 6, 1926 in Clayton, North Carolina to William
and Myrtle (Wilder) Kelly.
He was very proud of his service in the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS
Beckham from 1944-1946 serving in nine battles including Iwo Jima.
After his service to his country, he earned a Bachelor’s from East
Carolina Teachers College, played professional baseball with the Brooklyn
Dodgers, and served as a professor and dean at Campbell College.
He also published several books and worked for relief organizations including
Feed The Children and World Vi- sion.
He led 37 tours to the Holy Land. He shared his love of tennis by collecting
and donating over 27,000 tennis balls to area schools.
Those who knew him will miss his unique sense of humor and strong viewpoints
and opinions. He will be greatly missed by all knew him.
Haywood is preceded in death by one son. He is survived by his wife of
46 years, Jeanette (Mahan) Kelly and two children Haywood Burton Kelly
Jr. and daughter Wanda Fennell and four grandchildren.
A graveside celebration of his life will be held on Friday, September
16, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens.
