Mass of a Christian burial for Scott R. Keeney, age 80, of Grand River
will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 9114 Lake
Shore Blvd., Mentor.
Born Oct. 23, 1930, in Masontown, Pa., and passed away Feb. 10, 2011,
at Emeritus of Willoughby.
Mr. Keeney is a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Korean War.
He retired from Lubrizol in 1992, after 28 years of employment.
He was an avid softball player and bowler. He pitched in both the Pittsburgh
Pirates and Brooklyn Dodgers minor league systems. He was the president
of the Painesville Men's Softball League and a member of the Painesville
Men's Softball Hall of Fame.
He loved spending time with his two granddaughters Christine and Jennifer
Bacurin. He also enjoyed dancing, playing pinochle, doing crosswords and
vacationing in Las Vegas.
Scott is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carolyn "Babe"
(Szelc) Keeney; son, Scott R. Keeney Jr. of Grand River; daughter, Judy
(Rich) Bacurin of Mentor; granddaughters, Christine and Jennifer Bacurin
of Mentor; and brother, Robert (Sharleen Burkett) Connolly of Concord
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ada (Landman) Keeney.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Spear-Mulqueeny
Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville. Burial will be held at Riverside
Cemetery in Painesville.
The family suggests contributions to be made in Scott's memory to Vitas
Hospice Care, 600 East Granger Road, Suite 100, Cleveland, OH 44131 or
to St. Bede the Venerable Church.
