Joseph Thomas Keenan
Sr.,83. Born in South Philadelphia. Growing up he worked many seasons
as a lifeguard in Wildwood, NJ and enjoyed spending his summers there
during the course of his life.
As a teenager he played baseball, football, and basketball for South Catholic
High School and was inducted as a member of South Catholic Sports Hall
of Fame in 1997.
He served with distinction as a paratrooper in the US Army during W. W.
II and Korea achieving the rank of Sergeant; played professional baseball
in the St. Louis Cardinals organization and retired from the Philadelphia
Gas Works in 1989.
Mr. Keenan was a member of American Legion Post 667 in Manoa, Fourth Degree
member of the Knights of Columbus De La Salle chapter and was a parishioner
of St. Dorothy Parish in Drexel Hill for the past 35 years.
He is pre-deceased by his parents James and Catherine Keenan; sisters
Betty and Sissy; brothers James and Robert. Survivors: His wife of 56
years Phyllis Keenan (nee Martin); sons Joseph T. Keenan Jr. (Darlene)
of Aston, PA and John Keenan (Anita) of Philadelphia, PA; daughter Betty
Lynn Keenan of Havertown, PA; sister Helen Edwards (Wilson) of Glassboro,
NJ; also 8 grandchildren.
Visitation for friends and family will be held at Ruffenach Funeral Home
in Drexel Hill, PA Friday 7 to 9 PM and Saturday 9 to 9:45 AM.
