WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Mr. Charles Richard Jones, Jr., died Monday, October 31, 2011 at his residence in Winston-Salem.

Mr. Jones was born August 4, 1939 in Lincoln, AL to Charles Richard and Dorothy King Jones. His early life and education was in Talladega, AL. Mr. Jones graduated from Auburn University as a chemical engineer.

An avid sportsman, he signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers AAA at the age of seventeen and played for three years. He excelled in baseball, softball and golf.

From 1963-69, he was employed by Olin Mathison Chemical Corp. in Saltville, VA. and from 1969-97, he was with Celanese Chemical Corp. in Shelby, NC and Pampa, TX. He retired in 1997 and moved to Winston-Salem.

Mr. Jones enjoyed traveling, gardening, and volunteer work. He was very active at Burkhead United Methodist Church, serving as Church Treasurer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and of the Staff Parrish Committee, Treasurer of the United Methodist Men and a member of the Burkhead Sanctuary Choir.

Mr. Jones was a wonderful husband and a devoted son-in-law. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth Clear Jones, of the home; one brother, Henry Jones and wife, Joanna, of Anniston, AL; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George W. Clear and wife, Barbara, of Burnet, TX; and his nieces and nephews: Mark Clear and wife, Sherri; Brad Clear and wife, Kristy; Shannon Andrews and husband, Ben; Cathy Efron and husband, Barry; Jennifer Clegg and husband, Matthew; Susanna Gilmore and husband, Logan; and Jacob Clear.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion, VA. with Rev. Kathie Sherrill officiating.
