FAYETTEVILLE - Lee Rudolph "Rudy" Johnson, 84, died Oct. 8, 2011, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mary Ellen Johnson, of Whiteville, son David A (Patricia) Johnson and sister Mary, all of Gastonia.

Other survivors include children: Shirley (Richard) Schulz of Asheville, Amos (Jackie) Bedsole of Bladenboro, Bill (Allison) Bedsole of Washington, Carol (Dr. Reese H) Clark of Greenville SC and Kenneth (Tracie) Bedsole of Kearners-ville as well as 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Britt and Minnie Johnson, his first wife Margaret Elizabeth Jenkins, as well as his brother Ralph and sisters Louise Lytton and Carolyn Fisher.

Rudy served 1943-1946 in the Coast Guard. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Whiteville, NC, a Mason of Shallotte Lodge 727, a Gideon, a member of Woodmen of the World, avid golfer and fisherman. In 1944, he played semi-professional baseball for the Bristol Twins and the Erwin Cubs in the Appalachian League.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 12, at 11 a.m. in Founders Chapel, McLean Funeral Directors, Gastonia, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.

The family wishes to thank the staff of North Carolina State Veterans' Nursing Home in Fayetteville for the loving care they gave to our husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Johnson was a blessing to everyone who knew and loved him.
