Mr. Jakubowski was born October 19, 1936 in Camden, NJ to the late Alfred J., Sr. and June (Graver) Jakubowski. Alfred graduated from Haddon Heights High School in New Jersey where he set many all time school athletic records and was selected "Best Built".

Shortly after high school, Alfred was drafted to play baseball for the farm league of the Cincinnati Reds, where he played Center Field and maintained a batting average of .365.

He loved baseball; it was his passion throughout his life. He enjoyed keeping up with baseball statistics and enjoyed following the careers of his heroes, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson and Willie Stargell. After his baseball career, he worked as a Machinist. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Miriam LeLong for 15 years and together they had two children, Clifford Jakubowski of Nashua, NH and Cheryl Quillen of Ft. Myers, FL.

In addition to his children, he is survived by his companion of over 20 years, Laura Nost of New Castle, DE; grandchildren, Zephen Jakubowski, and Alexandria and Angelique Quillen.

Though he dealt with difficult circumstances in his life, having Parkinson's disease as well as the struggles of mental illness, he always maintained his character and integrity. He was very humble and had a gentle soul.

Alfred's family would like to extend the greatest of appreciation for the excellent level of care, compassion, comfort, support, and professionalism that the staff at Governor Bacon Health Center provided during his lengthy stay.

Burial services will be scheduled at a later date in Ft. Myers, FL.

The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Heartland Hospice, 261 Chapman Road Suite 100, Newark, DE 19702.
