Gerald D. Hudec
Gerald D. Hudec, 68, of Euclid, formerly of Madison and Mentor, died May 10, 2010, at Hospice of the Western Reserve on E. 185th St., after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 24, 1941, at Huron Road Hospital in East Cleveland.
Gerald was a 1960 graduate of Euclid High School, where he was first baseman and captain of the Euclid Panthers baseball team. He was awarded a scholarship to Kent State University, where he was captain of the 1964 MAC Baseball Championship. He also played briefly for the Minnesota Twins baseball system in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
Gerald taught and coached in the Euclid Public School System, St. Joes High School in Cleveland, Lake Catholic High School in Mentor and Chaminade High School in Florida. He is remembered by many students and fellow ball players as well as friends from Ballys Fitness Center in Willoughby. Geralds artistic talent led him to start his own business, Hudec Wallcovering, where he served many friends and customers for more than 45 years.
Survivors include his daughters, Kristine (Curtis) Barker, Dana Hudec and Leah Hudec; son, Drew (Jessica) Hudec; granddaughters, Taylir and Krista Barker; sisters, Jocelyn (John) Henkhuzens, Starlyn (Robert) Bruno and Lorelyn Hudec; brothers, Bruce Hudec and Roland Hudec; and nieces, Debbie, Dawn and Andrea.
Private services were held at Geralds request.
