Gary Burton Howard
passed away peacefully at home in Vacaville, Ca after succumbing to cancer
on December 17, 2012, at the young age of 62.
He was the
beloved husband of (wife) Ann Marie (Monahan) Howard for 43 years; loving
father of three children; Marc Howard, Matt (Erika) Howard both of Vacaville
and Erin (Danny) Frey of Florida. He was the proud "Papa" of
nine grandchildren--seven granddaughters and two grandsons!
He is also survived by his siblings Gene (Nancy) Howard of Oregon; Danny
(Cheryl) Howard, Randy Howard and June Castner all of Yuba City, Ca; his
sister-in- law Ginger Howard of Live Oak, Ca and many nieces, nephews
Gary was preceded
in death by his mother, Ila Howard; his father, Lyndell Howard; his brother,
Frank Howard; his niece, Tracy Howard and his nephew, Craig Castner.
In his earlier
days, Gary was an outstanding athlete, with baseball his passion. Soon
after college, he was drafted by the Houston Astros baseball team. After
a short stint of two years, he returned to Yuba City where he and Ann
soon started their family.
Several years later, he moved his family to Vacaville where he was employed
by Napa State Hospital as a LPT until he retired in 2005. Since that time,
he has devoted his time to his family. His passion for sports was passed
onto his children as well as his grandchildren. He loved attending his
grandkids soccer, softball, basketball, baseball and football games; he
was an inspiring coach to his grandsons as he was to his own sons; he
also loved camping trips with his family.
His other interests included music and writing poetry. He enjoyed playing
his keyboard for family and friends;he affectionately dubbed himself "The
Unknown Pianist"!! Gary will be remembered for his kind heart, his
sense of humor, his love to "gab", his infectious laugh and
his love for family and friends.
He will be greatly missed with many fond memories--his spirit will live
on in our hearts and will never, ever be forgotten!!
would like to thank everyone who knew him for all your prayers, love and
support. At his request, no formal service was held. A gathering to celebrate
Gary's life will be private.
