Hornsby, 90, of Panorama Village,TX died Sunday evening, April 15,2012,
at home. Born on August 9, 1921, in Hamilton, Ontario, Lenny was the youngest
of two children and the son of the late Dennis and Dorothy (Botting) Hornsby.
He met his wife of 65 years, the former Norma Jean Schmidt in Columbus,OH.
Lenny and Jean moved to Rahway, NJ in 1955 to raise their family.
Upon retirement, they relocated to Panorama Village, TX, in 1986 where
they enjoyed golfing, gardening, and a good game of cards.
Lenny served as a Coxswain for the US Navy Construction Force (Seabees)
in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He completed two tours of
duty, stationed in both the Aleutian and Okinawan Islands.
He was an avid athlete excelling at both baseball and basketball. Before
and after the war Lenny was a left-handed pitcher for several minor league
baseball teams. He worked for Thornton Closing Ring Co., in Springfield,
NJ as the Plant Manager until retirement.
Lenny is survived by his loving wife, Jean Hornsby and daughter Sandra
Hornsby. He was the very special grandfather to his two adoring grandchildren,
Joshua Bobrovcan and wife, Jennifer Hunter, and Molly McClung and husband,
Mark McClung: two great-grandchildren, Noah and Liam McClung.
Services will be private.
Cremation arrangements are under the care of the Carnes Funeral Home,.
