Ivan William Hominsky, 78, of Connellsville, Pa., passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 22, 2008, in his home, while surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous five year battle with prostate cancer.

He was born September 22, 1929, in Monarch, a son of the late Frank and Margaret Berenchi Hominsky.

Ivan was a graduate of the former Dunbar Township High School with the class of 1947, and also the Triangle School of Drafting in Pittsburgh. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Connellsville.

Ivan was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 948, where he was a Third Degree Knight. He was also a K of C Club Director, Secretary of the Golf League and a member of the Connellsville Slovak Club.

Prior to his retirement, Ivan worked as a draftsman for Permali, Inc., in Mt. Pleasant. He was an avid golfer, hunter and Notre Dame fan. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Andrew and his "grand dogs" Annie and Ralph.

Ivan played Minor League Baseball for the Chicago White Sox and the Pittsburgh Pirates and also played a lot of sand lot baseball in the area. Ivan had served as head umpire for the Fay-West and American Legion baseball leagues.

Ivan is survived by his wife, Dolores J. Madden Hominsky with whom he celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on June 9, 2008. He is also survived by his son, William Hominsky of Dunbar Township; his daughter, Cheryl Cesario and husband, Thomas of Connellsville Township; his grandchildren: Andrew Hominsky of Dunbar Township, Jennifer Cesario Odroneic and husband, Mark of Ashburn, Va., and Thomas Cesario of Connellsville; and his great-grandson, Dominic Odroneic of Ashburn, Va.

In addition to his parents, Ivan was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Audrey Ludwig Hominsky, granddaughters, Sarah and Elizabeth Cesario, a brother, Thomas Hominsky and a sister, Frances Hominsky.

Family and friends will be received from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, the time of the Blessing Service, in BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 111 East Green Street, Connellsville. A Funeral Mass will follow at 1 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville, with the Rev. Dennis Bogusz as Celebrant.

A Committal Service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville.

A Wake Service will be held today at 8:45 p.m. in the Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Nicholson Cancer Fund, P.O. Box G., Normalville, PA 15469, in memory of Ivan William Hominsky.
