William J. Hodges passed
away peacefully at home on Wednesday morning surrounded by loved ones.
Beloved husband, dad and pop, he touched everyone with his cheerful spirit
and sense of humor.
William (Bill) was born in Atascadero, CA and served in the U.S. Navy,
receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. He played baseball for the Brooklyn
Dodgers from 1947-1951. He worked as a machinist and owned a business
in Silicon Valley for 15 years before retiring. In retirement he became
an avid golfer, sports fan, and lover of the outdoors.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Catherine (Kay); devoted
daughters and son-in-laws Mary Ann and David Kidd, Jean and Alan Abeles,
and Eileen and Vince Bradley; adored grandchildren Jennifer McClain, Deborah
Sigala, Rebecca, Justin and Andrew Abeles, and Devin Bradley.
Friends and family are invited to a viewing on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 at
4:00 p.m. at Santa Teresa Church, 794 Calero Ave., in San Jose, followed
by a funeral mass at 4:30 p.m. and a reception at Avila Hall immediately
following mass. Burial services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012 at
10:00 a.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetary, 2255 Cristo Rey Drive in Los Altos.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Santa Teresa Church's
campaign to build a new hall.
