A. "Dick" Hobbs Sr.
Born Aug. 12, 1929, in Quincy, Dick was the son of Alton B. and Dorothea Wells Hobbs. He married Louise A. Williams on Jan. 11, 1951, at Salem Church in Quincy. She survives.
Mr. Hobbs was a 1948 graduate of Quincy High School. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in England during the Korean War. Following his discharge, Mr. Hobbs became an insurance agent for many years, working as the Quincy office general manager for Equitable of Iowa Life Insurance Co. He later was a founder of Hobbs, O'Connell & Norris Insurance Agency which later was sold to Mark Freiburg. Dick continued with the Freiburg Insurance Agency until his retirement in 2009.
Dick was a member of Herman Masonic Lodge No. 39, a life member of the National Rifle Association and was a former member of Ansar Shrine Temple, Quincy Shrine Club and Quincy Elks Lodge No. 100.
An avid sportsman, Dick was a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs minor league farm teams and he enjoyed hunting and golfing.
Survivors include his wife, Louise; five children, Richard A. Hobbs Jr. (Yolanda) of Lebanon, Mo., Dian L. Higgins (Rodney) of Destin, Fla., Daniel V. Hobbs of Nashville, Tenn., Dale E. Hobbs (Yvonne) of Quincy and Dee Ann Wilson (Stanley) of Lebanon; 11 grandchildren, Ray David Hobbs Jr. (Dessa), Brian Hobbs (Krista), Amanda Collins (Gene), Shanon Fox (Jamie), Heather Fentress (Neil), William Hobbs (Dawn), Benjamin Hobbs (Amelia), Mandy Brummell (George), Leanne Hobbs, John Campbell (Jenny) and Lesa Barklage (Ryan); 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Brona Lu Daub (Bill) of Sebring, Fla.; a niece, Maria Vogel (Rick) of Keller, Texas; and a nephew, Marty Viehmeyer (Patty) of Quincy.
Mr. Hobbs was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Ray D. Hobbs Sr.
SERVICES: A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Richard Hobbs Sr. will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy. Private inurnment will be in Greenmount Cemetery at a later date.
