Jack Hert, 70, of Vincennes passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at 7:40 p.m. at the Good Samaritan Hospital with his family at his bedside. Jack was born in Anderson, the son of Paul E. and Robertine O. Hedges Hert.

He was a graduate of Vincennes Lincoln High School in 1956, and he was a first baseman for the undefeated baseball team. He was a member of the only undefeated athletic team in the history of Lincoln High School. That team was inducted to the Indiana High School Baseball Hall of Fame. He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins, playing in the Triple A teams in Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Midland, Texas.

He and his father operated Hert's IGA and Stoops IGA for over 20 years. He married Jackie L. Wagonseller on Nov. 26, 1959, and they made their lives together for over 49 years.

He was a sanitary engineer for the wastewater treatment plant for the Vincennes Water Utilities and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie L. Hert; and their children, Taunie Snyder and her husband Mark of Vincennes and Mickey Hert and his wife Deneen of Greenfield. He was the proud grandfather to Spencer Hert.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother- and father-in-law, Esco and Leona Wagonseller.

Funeral services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home. Joseph Swartz will officiate. He will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Vincennes Lincoln High School Baseball Team or to the Vincennes Lincoln High School Choir Department.
