Robert G. Herron was born to parents Genevieve and Robert Herron, Sr. on September 15th, 1928 in Clairton, Pa. Bob graduated from Clairton High School in 1946.

He was a catcher for the Pittsburg Pirates Farm Team and shortly thereafter became a veteran of the Korean War.

Bob moved from Clairton, Pa. To West Palm Beach, Fl. In 1959. He became a deputy sheriff for the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office in 1960 working for Sheriff Kellenberger he rose through the ranks from Patrolman to Major. He commanded numerous divisions throughout his 25 year career including the Detective Bureau, Vice and Administration.

Bob was the first member of the PBSO to attend and graduate from the FBI Academy and the first member of the PBSO to hold the rank of Major. After his retirement from the PBSO, he was also the first Chief of the Park Police and ran for Sheriff in 1984. He was the chief of security from l982 through l987 at the Jupiter Hills Golf Club. He handled the security for the 1987 Men’s Amateur Golf Tournament.

Throughout his life, Bob was a golfer and his passion was golf. He put in ten years with the Florida Department of Health as an investigator and retired in June of 2001.

He was pre-deceased by his oldest daughter Holly Herron, surviving family includes his wife Teresita¸ daughter Cristina and son Kevin. Grandchildren Jessica, Jesse, Mekayla, Caleb and Benjamin. From his previous marriage Lory, Robb, Kelly, Randy and Genna.. Grandchildren, Josh, Shauna, Carley, Tyler and Cameron. Great Grandchildren Monet, James and Mila. He has a sister Anne Davis in Tampa and a nephew Glenn R. Davis in Pa.

The family will receive friends 11:00 am – 12:00 noon, Thursday, September 15, 2011 at
Palm Beach National Chapel, 10055 Heritage Farms Road, Lake Worth, 33449. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon with Rev. Scribner Damon/New Life Community Church and Reverend Father Rafael Torres Oliver/Catholic Priest.
