Phillip M. Heflin
Phillip M. Heflin, 79, of Fredericksburg passed away, Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at his residence.
He was a member of Berea Baptist Church. Mr. Heflin was a graduate of Falmouth High School, where he batted a .490 with an error-free senior year at first base, and attended VMI. He earned a spot with the farm team for the St. Louis Cardinals in Americus, Ga. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War, and was a member of the All Navy Baseball Team. He was a life member of Elks Lodge 875 and a member of the Fredericksburg Jaycees.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur C. Heflin and Carrie G. Heflin; and two sisters, Elva H. Burgess and Marian H. Wingfield.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 54 years, Nancy D. Heflin; his son, Phillip M. Heflin Jr. and his wife, Catherine; his daughters, Lisa H. Boyd and her husband, Dusty, and Dori W. Heflin and her fiance, Robert S. DeTogni; his beloved grandchildren, C. Rodes Boyd III and his wife, Amanda M. Boyd, William P. Boyd, Jackson P. Boyd, Grace E. Heflin and Phillip M. Heflin III; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at Rock Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
