Bernard F. Healy,
age 93, of Holyoke, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Mary's Meadow. He
was born in Holyoke, son of the late Jeremiah and Katherine (Grady) Healy
and was a 1935 graduate of the former St. Jerome High School.
Bernie was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, and had worked
at National Blank Book Company. He was a 30 year Letter Carrier with the
United States Postal Service, retiring in 1980.
Bernie had played minor league baseball in Maryland from 1938 to 1939
and was a former baseball and basketball coach at St. Jerome High School.
He was a member of Holyoke Knights of Columbus Council 90 and the Veterans
of Foreign Wars Organization.
Bernie is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marina (Barrett) Healy, a
daughter, Anne C. Tucker and her husband Tom of Holyoke, three sons, Francis
X. Healy and his wife Gloria of Holyoke, Bernard P. Healy and his wife
Mary of Holyoke, and Patrick J. Healy of Westfield, 11 grandchildren,
Joanne O'Toole of West Springfield, Michael Tucker of South Hadley, Daniel
Tucker of Sandwich, Deborah Gilmore and Kara Dahn, both of Newburyport,
Matthew Healy of Quincy, John Healy of Holyoke, Patrick Healy of Drexel,
PA, Michael Healy of Woburn, MA, and Patrick and Brendan Healy, both of
Boston, 17 great-grandchildren and three nieces.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Marina Healy, three brothers, Francis,
Daniel and John Healy, and three sisters, Mildred Dwyer, Anna Healy, and
Mary Walsh.
Funeral will be held Monday morning at 9:00 from the Barry J. Farrell
Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke followed by a Mass of Christian
Burial in St. Patrick Chapel of St. Jerome Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial
will follow in St. Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Sunday
from 2 6 p.m.
