HAYNES, JAMES W.,
JR. "PETE", age 92, born on October 22, 1915, died February
27, 2008. Played professional baseball for Detroit Tigers in Southern
League farm system (1937-38).
Worked for Stockham Valve then U. S. Postal Service. Served in the military
service in U. S. Marine Corp in 3 Pacific Campaigns at Guadacanal, New
Britain and Okinawa receiving the Purple Heart.
Funeral Services will be Friday, February 29, at 2:00 p.m. at Ridout's
Roebuck Chapel with burial in Forest Hill
Cemetery.
He was predeceased by two wives, Grace Truman Adams (1947- 1991) and Alice
Campbell (1992-2001) and parents, James W. Haynes, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth
Scarborough. Survivors: sons, James W. Haynes, III and Alan R. Haynes;
brothers, James Arvel Haynes, William Otis Haynes, Earl Haynes, and Charlie
Guice Haynes; sister, Eva Mae Brown; grandchildren, Allison Haynes, Melody
Ellis, and Jennifer Haynes.
