Raymond Harris

Raymond Anthony "Bud" Harris died June 13, 2009, at the age of 66 in Apple Valley, where he had lived for 12 years.

He was born July 15, 1942, in Chicago, Ill. He attended high school and college in San Bernardino, where he lived most of his life. An accomplished athlete, he lettered in basketball and baseball, and even played semi-pro baseball as a catcher with the Minnesota Twins AAA Club team in the early 1960s.

After moving to the High Desert in 1996, he began attending Apple Valley Baptist Church, where he quickly became a beloved volunteer. Whether leading bible studies, serving in children's ministries, or cooking for special events, Ray's warm heart and generous spirit were evident to all. His enthusiasm for the life of the church led Ray to work part-time for Apple Valley Christian School as well.

He is survived by his fianc?e, Carolee Goode, of Apple Valley; sister Carol Hampton of Hesperia; son and daughter-in-law Tim and Jill Harris of Yucaipa; and grandchildren McKenna, Campbell and Wylie Harris of Yucaipa.

A memorial service celebrating Ray's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at Apple Valley Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor John Richart.
