Robert Franklyn "Spud" Hale, age 75, died on July 27, 2011 with his family and friends by his side.

He was born on December 31, 1935 in Yorkville, TN to Ruby Wilson Hale and Robert Hale. He attended and graduated Yorkville High School where he was an avid basketball and baseball player. He furthered his education at the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he obtained his BSW. Spud was a baseball enthusiast. In 1955, he signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers and was sent to Union City, TN, a farm club, to play in the Kitty League. Furthermore, he was a long time member and supporter of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Spud was preceded in death by his sisters, Hilda (Hale) McKinnie Carlson and Georgia Lee (Hale) Etheridge.

He is survived by his daughter, Ellen (Hale) Hudson; and two grandchildren, Sarah Capps and Taylor Bevis; Robert Wesley McKinnie, nephew; and three nieces, Sandra Etheridge Silverstein, Fransue Etheridge Bertels, Virginia McKinnie and their spouses.

The family will receive visitors on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 3 p.m., at the Medina Funeral Home, with the Memorial service to follow at 4 p.m.
