GUTHRIE, W. David
W. David Guthrie, age 66 of Lawrenceville, GA passed away of natural causes
at his home Friday evening, July 30, 2010. Mr. Guthrie was born in Atlanta,
Georgia on September 17, 1943 and was the son of J. R. Guthrie, Sr. and
Evelyn C. Guthrie.
Mr. Guthrie is survived by his wife, Mary M. (Micki) Guthrie of 36 years.
Other survivors include: daughters Kasey L. Guthrie, Kirsten and Stan
Hutchins, Kelly and Daryl Marshall all residents of Gwinnett County. Also
included in the family are the following grandchildren: BoBo, Kyle, Hayden
and Max Marshall, and James, Kayla and Kelsey Hutchins, one brother, John
R. Guthrie, Jr. and sister-in-law, Angela B. Guthrie.
Mr Guthrie led his Murphy High School Baseball Team to the Georgia State
Championship in 1961. Afterward, as a strapping 17 year old athlete, Mr.
Guthrie signed a bonus contract to play professional baseball with the
Saint Louis Cardinals. He played professionally with the Cardinals organization
for 10 years.
After his baseball career, Mr. Guthrie and his wife Micki began a long
and successful career in the business world. Their company, Mid Continental,
Inc. has been on the cutting edge for building, real estate and development
in Gwinnett County for over 30 years. Mr. Guthrie was selected by the
Atlanta Home Builders Association as developer/builder of the year in
1987 and 1988. Among his successful ventures were: Killian Hill Manor,
Wedgewood Chase, Cambridge Farms, Jamestowne and River Oak Village.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, August 1, from 5:00 to 8:00
Pm at Tom Wages Funeral Home, 120 Scenic Highway, Lawrenceville, GA.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 2,
at 2:30 PM, with Rev. Frank Cox officiating. Interment will be at White
Chapel Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Hill Road.
