"Art" Gunning, of Milford, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010
in Milford Center. He was 92.
Art was a former professional minor league baseball player for 5 years,
catching for teams under the "N.Y. Giants", in the Eastern Shore
League (Milford), the Western Association (Fort Smith, Ark.) and the Eastern
League (Elmira, N.Y.). In 2004 he was inducted into the Eastern Shore
Baseball Hall of Fame at Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Md.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Emma; a son, Steve Gunning of
Baton Rouge, La; two daughters, Debi Dick of Annapolis, Md., and Fran
Gunning of Milford; three sisters, from Sag Harbor, N.Y., and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at
Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Milford Museum,
121 S. Walnut St., Milford, DE, 19963, in hopes to have a permanent baseball
exhibit in the future.
