Donald J. Gunnet, 87,
died on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at 1 a.m. at Manor Care Health Services
South.
He was the husband of Doris M. (Paff) Gunnet, who died on August 2, 2002.
Viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Workinger-Semmel F.H.
& Crematorium, Inc., 849 E. Market St., York, with the service to
follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. His assistant pastor, the Rev.
Bradley Rentzel, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Mount Rose Cemetery with full military honors by
the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
Mr. Gunnet was born April 6, 1922, in Bairs Station, the son of the late
Roy S. and Estella V. (Trone) Gunnet.
He was a professional baseball player in 1941 with the Bridgeport Bees
and then was an insurance agent for 35 years with American General Life
Insurance Co.
He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the European/Pacific
Theater of Operation as a First Class Water Tender.
He was a graduate of West York H.S. Class of '40. Mr. Gunnet was a member
of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, the Hawks Gunning Club, and a charter
life member of West York VFW Post # 8951. Mr. Gunnet is survived by a
son, Donald E. Gunnet of York; a daughter, Deborah J. Young of York; three
grandchildren; a greatgranddaughter; and a sister, Kathryn A. Everhart
of York.
