MARION: Thomas Bridges Griffith, age 75, of Marion, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2010, at 4:05 p.m. in the Riverside Hospital, Columbus.

He was born in Marion on October 7, 1935 to the late Earl and Caroline (Speidel) Griffith.

Thomas was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Chard and on July 7, 1984 in Marion he married Judith C. Short. She survives in Marion. Tom served in the U.S. Army and later in the Army Reserves. He is a member of the Marion Co. Fish & Game Club and the Transportation Workers Union. In his youth, Tom played baseball with the local Am. Legion Team and was recruited by a major league baseball team. He was first employed by the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad and later Conrail as a car inspector, retiring in 1996 after 44 years of service.

The lifetime Marion resident is survived by a son, Craig A. Griffith of Marion; two daughters, Gail (Dan) Hendricks of Marion and Jennifer (Dave) Shoemaker of Morral; a brother, Robert (Judy) Griffith of Marion; two sisters, Melba Pask and Esther Porter both of Marion; he was known as "Poppee" to his four grandchildren, Preston Cowell, Logan & Mitchel Hendricks, and special grandson, Christopher (Janel) Lowry; and five great grandchildren, Brianna, Garret, Braydon, Korben Bridges, and Hannah; Tom's extended family consisted of Becky, Cory, Tim, Olivia; and many nieces & nephews including a special nephew, David (Carol) McPherson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a son, Gary Lee Lowry Jr.; two brothers; and three sisters.

The funeral celebrating his life will be held in the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow in the Marion Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday.
