Lyman O. Greer, 95, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, June 6, 2009, in a Sweetwater nursing home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m, Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at the Mt. Olive Memorial Park chapel in Big Spring with Rev. Dean Thomas, officiating.

The family with receive guests on Monday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lyman was born on June 13, 1913, in Florence, Texas to Talley and Ludie (Priest) Greer and married Francis Cole in 1946 in Silver City, N. M. They lived in both Silver City, N. M. and Big Spring. She preceded him in death in 1999.

Lyman lived in Sweetwater when he was younger and played professional baseball from 1936 to 1942.

He was nicknamed the "Sweetwater Swatter."

The nickname followed him in the United States Army Air Corp where he also played baseball during World War II.

After the military, Lyman served as foreman in the Civilian Conservation Corps in both Big Spring and Lamesa. In Big Spring they built the Scenic Mountain park and in Lamesa they planted hundreds of Elm trees.
