SALISBURY - Herman Carlock "Carl" Greene, 77, of 140 Cumquat Road Northwest, Lake Place, Fla., a summer resident of Salisbury, and former resident of Linville Creek Road, Vilas, died Saturday afternoon, Aug. 2, 2008, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Greene was born April 12, 1931, in Watauga County, a son of the late Herman Lawton and Pearl Henson Greene. Carl was a professional baseball player for 20 years with the Atlanta Braves organization and then was a baseball scout for the Montreal Expos, Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros and finally retired with the LA Dodgers. He was inducted into the Professional Baseball Scouting Hall of Fame in 1994 and received the Scout of the Year award in 2004 at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Md.

Mr. Greene is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Love Greene of the home; two sons, William "Bill" Greene and Randy Carl Greene; two daughters, Teresa J. Greene and Carla S. Greene; two grandchildren, Coty Carl Greene and Kenneth Shane Greene; one daughter-in-law, Sabrina Mattox Greene; and two brothers, Ned P. Greene and wife Mary Jo, and James H. Greene.

Service: Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 2 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel in Boone. The body will lie in-state at the chapel from 1-2 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Doug Robertson. Entombment will follow at the Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Garden Mausoleum.

Visitation: The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 at Hampton Funeral Service.
