The Obit For Bob Graham

BOB J. GRAHAM , our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on April 25, 2011, in Tomball.

He was born March 28, 1929, in Tahoka, TX, to Martha Opal and James Benton Graham. He moved to Houston in 1933 with his parents. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School and 1947 and Texas A&M in 1956, where he had been awarded a baseball scholarship. He played baseball and was All Navy for three years.

He was signed as a first-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates. After playing one year in minor league baseball, he joined the U.S. Navy. He was a Korean War veteran serving aboard the U.S.S. Saipan CVL 48 and was honorably discharged in 1954.

He worked in the oil field service industry with Johnson Testers in his early life and later went into the hotel business with the Shamrock Hilton, Astroworld, and Rice Hotels. He retired in 1995 from Comet Rice. He was a member of the Texas Horseshoe Pitchers Association and was the Texas State Champion in 1971, 1976, and 1995. He was inducted into the Texas Hall of Fame in 1975. He was also a faithful member of Memorial Baptist Church in Spring.

He was predeceased by his beloved first wife and mother of his children, Elizabeth Ann "Libby" Graham. Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances; brother, Kenneth and wife Melba; sons, Larry, Kimberly, Keith and wife Sonya, and Kirk and wife Leticia; a daughter, Lisa Kelly Graham; grandchildren, Sydney, Julia, Espi, Kristian, and Faith; niece, Kathleen Semmler and family; and nephews, Mark and Jim Graham and family, all of whom he loved dearly.

Visitation with family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at Klein Funeral Home, Tomball. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, April 29, at Memorial Baptist Church, 22333 Kuykendahl, Spring, with Pastor Cliff Mayton officiating.
