Dale Gentil, age 94, of Lapeer, formerly of Bloomfield Hills, died Friday, August 24, 2012.

Dale was born July 25, 1918 in Mt. Vernon, Indiana to August and Martha (Medcalf) Gentil. Mr. Gentil was a 1940 graduate of Indiana University Business School, where he played college sports and than minor league baseball. He also studied at the Harvard Naval Supply Corp.

Dale proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII, on the Destroyer Escort the USS Carroll, in both the Atlantic and Pacific theatres.

He married Ann Marie Olson on July 3, 1948 in Gary, Indiana. Mr. Gentil retired as a comptroller, at the Budd Company, after working there over 30 years.

Dale cared for his late wife throughout the final years of her life, loving and supporting her through all the stages of Alzheimers.

Mr. Gentil was a member of the American Legion Post #16 and actively involved with the local Alzheimer's Support Group. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was considerate, thoughtful.. a true gentleman. Mr. Gentil enjoyed sports, family, traveling and RVing. Above all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and son.

Dale is survived by his daughters: Linda (Mike) Youngblood of Lapeer and Lori (Mike) Cavin of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren: Lissa Youngblood of Lapeer, Erin Youngblood of Urbana, IL and Michele (Joey) Williams of Tucson, AZ; great-grandson: Dustin; nieces and nephews: Bob, Peg, Steve and Sigrid.

Mr. Gentil was preceded in death by his loving wife: Ann; parents: August and Martha Gentil; brothers: Harold and Elvis Gentil.

Visitation for Mr. Gentil will be 2-4PM and 6-8 PM Thursday, August 30, 2012. The funeral service for Dale will be 11:00 AM Friday, August 31, 2012, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer, Rev. Todd Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, with miliary honors under the auspices of American Legion Post #16 Honor Guard.
