Angelo (Gene) Gaviglio (1926-2010) Born April 29, 1926 died October 12, 2010 surrounded
by his family after a courageous battle with recurring cancer.
A San Francisco
native, Gene was a star athlete in baseball and basketball at Mission High School.
At 17, he signed and played with the Sacramento Solons. After serving in the Navy
from 1945-46, continued his professional baseball career for nine years.
A
lifetime member of the S.F. Old Timer's Baseball Assn., President (1972), Golf
Commissioner for 25 years and "Ultimate" Old Timer (2000), Friends of
Marino Pieretti Group, Santa Clara/ Sunnyvale Golf Clubs, a long time 49er ticket
holder and 49er and Sacred Heart CP ticket taker.
Beloved husband to June
(64 yrs.) devoted father to Gail Carmone (Alan), proud grandfather to Nicholas,
and uncle to Jan Billings, Donna Borges, and Michael Beck. Also survived by his
large extended family.
Predeceased by his son Gary, sisters Dorothy Burch
& Gloria Beck. He will be remembered as a loyal friend and will be greatly
missed by all.
Donations to Sutter VNA & Hospice of Santa Rosa or
Hanna Boys Center, Sonoma, CA.
No funeral at his request, a celebration
of Gene's life will be held in Santa Rosa on Oct. 30th. |
