CHARLES HOWARD GARRIS,
born June 11, 1938, son of the late Alden Andrew Garris and Amy Ethel
Adams, loving husband, father, and grandfather, died suddenly April 28,
2010.
Charles was an ordained Deacon in his church and knew the Lord as his
Savior and is home with Him. Charles was retired from Houston ISD as teacher
and principal and was a professor at the University of Houston Downtown.
Charles served as Lieutenant in the United States Army and was a professional
baseball player with the St. Louis Cardinals. He earned a Masters Degree
in Administrative Education in 1975 and was among the Who's Who among
America's teachers awards recipients.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda Hibbard Garris, children:
Sharron Yvonne Garris Cathey and husband John, Carol Garris Maciel and
husband Guillermo, John Charles Garris and wife Stacey Marie, and James
Howard Garris; grandchildren: Cole Denman Cathey, Holden John Cathey,
Alden Andrew Garris and Abigail Elizabeth Garris; one brother, five sisters
and several nieces and nephews and many loving friends.
The family will greet friends 5-8 P.M. Monday, May 3, 2010 at Klein Funeral
Home. The funeral service will be 10 A.M. Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Klein
Funeral Home Chapel 14711 FM 1488, Magnolia, TX. 77355.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the building
fund of Memorial Baptist Church 22333 Kuykendahal, Spring, TX. 77379.
