Garfield Gar Ganoe, age 92, of Peterstown, W.Va., passed away
Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Country View Assisted Living, Peterstown,
W.Va.
He was born April 30, 1916 in Rich Creek, Va., to the late Grover Gaston
and Nora Gearheart Ganoe.Mr. Ganoe was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran,
a member of the Peterstown Missionary Baptist Church, and a member of
the John Dove Lodge #78 A.F. and A.M., Peterstown, W.Va. He was also a
member of the Local Union #45 International Brotherhood of Boilermakers-
Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmith Forcers and Helpers.
Gar was an avid hunter, loved James Monroe sports and gardening. He was
a professional baseball player, having played in the Cincinnati Reds organization.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth
Browning Blondie Ganoe; four sisters: Louise Stables, Helen
Baxter, Betty Ferguson and Pauline Pod Rankin; six brothers:
Rhenard, Harold, Sherman, Finley, Lindy and Bobby Ganoe.He is survived
by one daughter, Linda Terry and husband John of Peterstown, W.Va.; two
grandchildren, Field Terry of Christiansburg, Va., and Elizabeth Pitzer
and husband Nick of Peterstown, W.Va.; one great-granddaughter, Ava Pitzer;
and one sister, Marie Link of Salem, Va.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Broyles-Shrewsbury
Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, W.Va., with the Rev. Jonathan Jennings
officiating. Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until time of services on
Saturday.
Burial will follow at the Sunrise Memorial Garden Cemetery, Rich Creek,
Va. Pallbearers will be Dan Hall, Buddy Worrell, Gary and David Fields,
Tim Jones, and Ernie Moon. Honorary pallbearers are Herbert McDonald,
Freddie Robertson, and Donald Brown.In lieu of flowers, donations can
be made to the Sports Of Monroe, Rt. 2 Box 277, Peterstown, WV 24963.
