Herbert Galpert, age 92, having resided in Swampscott for some 60 years, he died on Monday unexpectedly at his home. Born in Revere, he graduated from Revere High School where he was Captain of the football team as well as playing baseball and basketball. He graduated from Boston University where he also excelled in sports.

Herb was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates and played for their minor league farm team. He owned and operated the Algy Leather Consultant Company in Peabody. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was active in youth sports, having coached in the Swampscott Babe Ruth League, the Jewish Community Center of the North Shore and other youth orientated sports leagues. He was a former member of Cong. Shirat Hayam (Temple Israel), Swampscott and Kernwood Country Club in Salem.

Beloved husband of the late Charlotte (Abrams) Galpert. Devoted father of Laura and her husband Bruce Rafey of Swampscott and Jack Galpert. Cherished grandfather of Kate Rafey. Loving brother of the late Albert Galpert and Sylvia Goldman.

Graveside services and Memorial Observance were held. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be donated to the charity of your choice.
