Lawrence Xavier Frey

Lawrence Xavier Frey (Larry), passed away on November 27, 2009, at age 89. Beloved husband of the late Bettye Bender Frey.

Devoted father of Lawrence Lee Frey (Miami, Fl.) and Laurie Frey Mannarino (Australia). Doting grandfather to Lauren, Alexandra, Brandon, Ashleigh and Mollie Mannarino (Australia). Much loved father-in-law of Joseph Mannarino.

Son of the late Catherine Hotz Frey and Aloysius J. Frey. Brother of the late Mary F. Crowley, Aloysius J. Frey, Sr., Elizabeth F. Hirstius, Edward J. Frey, Marcus L. Frey and I. John Frey.

Along with nieces and nephews he is survived by his sisters-in-law June Frey, Joyce Frey and Jackie Frey.

A native New Orleanian, he was a graduate of Holy Cross High School and Tulane University. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the US Navy.

Before working for General Electric for 25 years, he played professional baseball for Houston and New Iberia, coached at Holy Cross, and was the sporting goods and major appliance buyer for D.H. Holmes for 7 years from 1953.

Avid golfers, he and his wife belonged to Riverlands Golf and Country Club. They were also active in the National Senior Sports Association.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation beginning at 10:30a.m. followed by a 12:00 noon Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery), on Wednesday, December 2, 2009.
