James "Jimmy" J. Francoline, Sr., 94, passed away on Friday (June 8, 2012).

Born in Hartford, he was the youngest of eight children to the late Vincenzo and Maria (Destefano) Francolino, and loving husband of the late Helen (Dworak) Francoline.

He played baseball in the minor leagues for the St. Louis Cardinal ball club, as well as local teams such as the Savitt Gems, the New Britain Creamo's and the Hartford Bees. Jimmy coached several Twilight League teams and was a member of the Twilight League Hall of Fame.

He had a shoe repair shop in Sage Allen's in Hartford, and in his later years worked selling mutual funds and real estate. Jimmy was one of the founding members of the South Catholic Father's Club, where he served as president for several years. His community involvement included Chief Election Moderator for the City of Hartford and member of the Hartford Redevelopment Committee.

He is survived by his son, James and wife Carole Grenon-Francoline; his daughters, Joan Francoline-Solmonson and Ruth Cosker; one sister, Agnes; four grandchildren, Gary, Christine, Michael and Bobby; three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Drew and Sophia and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Rocco, Andy and Tom and his sisters, Sue, Grace and Mae.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 12 at 9 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Luke's Church, 66 Bolton Street, Hartford.

Burial will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery in East Windsor.

Friends and family may call at the funeral chapel on Monday from 4-7 p.m.
