Ronald J. Fountain,
79, died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Ellis Hospital after a long illness.
Ron was born in Schenectady on September 12, 1932 to the late Leo and
Irene Nellis Fountain. He attended Schenectady schools and was a 1951
graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany
with the 1814 Headquarters Company attached to the 47th Infantry Division.
Ron was a standout baseball player in high school and went on to play
ball for the U.S. Army in Germany. After military service, he went on
to play Triple A baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Upon returning to
Schenectady, he played baseball at the Country Inn and Sportsman softball
leagues. Ron was a bindery foreman at the Electric City Press in Schenectady
for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Airetta Kruger Fountain; son, Steven Fountain;
daughter, Lou-Ann Mugits (Martin); sister, Irene Harper; and his sister-in-law,
Jane Fountain. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Christal
Mugits (Zach), Kyle Mugits; great-grandson, Cody Coop (CJ); and several
nieces and nephews.
Ron was predeceased by his brother, David Fountain.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home,
1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam, from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, November
There will be no funeral service.
It is requested that no flowers be sent.
