James R. "Fitz" Fitzpatrick, age 81, of Canal Winchester, died Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at his residence. Born May 5, 1931 in Columbus, Ohio, the youngest of 17 children to the late Samuel J. and Emma Lynn (Glandon) Fitzpatrick.

He was a graduate of Columbus South High School, and began working for Columbus Baseball at the age of 13. He remained with them for the next 55 years, as groundskeeper, concessionaire and ultimately Assistant General Manager of the Columbus Jets and Columbus Clippers. He was inducted into the Columbus Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005.

Survived by his wife of 63 years, Gloria Joanne Fitzpatrick; daughters, Nancy (Michael) Hill, Canal Winchester, Ginger (Craig) Hix, London, Rita (Gerry) Bailey, Lithopolis, Sherry Crago, Glouster; son, Donnie Fitzpatrick, Washington, DC; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; sister, Dorothy Scurlock, Columbus; several brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by daughter, Carol Sue Norris; and 15 brothers and sisters.

Friends may visit 2-8 pm Thursday and 2-7 pm Friday at the Fellowship Baptist Church, 4701 Winchester Pike, Columbus, 43232 where a funeral service will be held 7 pm Friday, with Pastor Tony Liuzzo officiating.
