FRANK W. FITCHBEN JR.
79, a lifelong Stamford resident passed away on April 18, 2009 at Long
Ridge of Stamford. He was born on June 11, 1929. He is the son of the
late Frank W. Fitchben Sr. and Grace Biggar Fitchben.
He is survived by his wife Sharon Mullen Fitchben. He is survived by three
sons Brad Fitchben of Stamford, Frank Jr. and his wife Denise of Florida,
Danny Mullen of Stamford, one daughter Kim Marie Mullen of Stamford, and
two granddaughters Vickie and Trish. He graduated from Stamford High School
Class of 1947, where he excelled in sports. The highlight in Frank's career
was when he signed a contract to play with the Philadelphia Phillies.
He played semi-pro baseball in the Twilight and Independent Leagues and
coached men and women's softball teams in Stamford. Frank was proud to
be honored by the Stamford Old Timers Athletic Association at their 60th
anniversary annual dinner in 2002. He served in the U.S. Army during the
Korean Conflict. Frank owned and operated Fitchben Refuge Co. with his
wife Sharon and son Brad from 1989-2000. Relatives and friends may call
at the Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Ave, Stamford on Thursday, April
23, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. A prayer service will then follow.
Interment will take place in private.
