Donald E. Fischer,
88 years old, a lifelong resident of West Palm Beach, FL, passed way peacefully
on Saturday, June 19, 2010.
Born in West Palm Beach on February 15, 1922, he was a son of the late
Michael M. and Theresa Hilliard Fischer, and a founding member of St.
Juliana Catholic Church. Don graduated from St. Ann High School, Class
of 1939; and played semi professional baseball for the West Palm Beach
Indians. He was also a veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific
Theater with the US Army Air Corps.
Don was employed with Eastern Airlines for over 34 years until his retirement
in 1982, and was a member and former Secretary of the Eastern Airlines
Retirement Association of Palm Beach County.
Don was an Honorary Life Member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of
Columbus, Palm Beach Council 2075; and a former member of the West Palm
Beach Country Club since 1965.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Grace A. Fischer of West Palm
Beach, FL; three daughters, Suzanne Burkett (William) of St. Augustine,
FL, Donna Johnson (Richard) of Cornelius, NC, and Lorraine "Posie"
Maestri (John) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; two sons, Donald "Ed"
Fischer, Jr. (Nancy) of Canton, GA, and Stephen Fischer (Carole) of West
Palm Beach, FL; two brothers, Michael H. Fischer of West Palm Beach, FL,
and John B. "Jack" Fischer of Vero Beach, FL; eleven grandchildren,
one great granddaughter due to be born this week, and numerous nieces
and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 from 6:00
until 8:00 PM at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 1201 South Olive Avenue, West
Palm Beach, FL 33401, with a Scripture Service to be held at 7:30 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday,
June 24, 2010 at St. Juliana Catholic Church, 4500 South Dixie Hwy., West
Palm Beach, FL 33405, with Rev. Brian King, officiating. The interment,
including Military Honors, will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
