ENNIS – Mike Ferryman, 91, passed away Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at the Madison Valley Manor at Ennis.

Mike was born May 24, 1921, at St. Louis to Garnet and Constance (Perry) Ferryman. He was raised in a catholic orphanage in Quincy, Ill. He later lived with his father in Denver and Lakewood, Colo. He graduated from high school in 1939 from Molene, Ill. He then played baseball during spring training with the Boston Red Sox and then the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Mike then entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II as part of the blimp patrol along the coast of Florida and Louisiana, and later in Hawaii. He was discharged from the Navy in 1946. He then played baseball in Geneva, Ala., for the Dodgers.

In 1950 he moved to Helena, where he worked as a wholesale salesman to grocery stores for many years and then moved to Bozeman, where he retired from this line of work in 1983.

He enjoyed golf and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Paul Ferryman, who passed away on Sept. 17, 2010.

Survivors include his children, Sheila (Jim) Hill of Helena, Bridget (John) Dale of McAllister and Patrick (Anne) Ferryman of Missoula; seven grandchildren, Kevin Wall, Steven Hill, Michael Hill, Justin Ferryman, Shawn Ferryman, Brian Dale and Brendon Dale; two great-grandchildren, Ricky Dale, and Grace Ferryman.

Memorials may be made to the Madison Valley Manor in Ennis or to NAMI at 616 Helena Ave., Helena, MT 59601.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21 from St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ennis with Father Joseph Finnegan officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison Friday, Sept. 21, at 2:30 p.m.

A memorial service will be held at the Madison Valley Manor in Ennis on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m. with Deacon Andy Dorrington officiating.
