Robert J. Ferris 1928
- 2008 SOUTHWICK - Robert J. "Bob" Ferris, 80, of Southwick
died Saturday December 27, 2008 in Noble Hospital.
He was born on May 11, 1928 in Armonk, NY, son of the late Ray and Matilda
(Waterbury) Ferris. Bob graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1945.
He was a Korean War Veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart and Combat
Bob was a minor league pitcher for the New York Yankees from 1945-1954,
pitching in the US, Canada, Japan and Mexico. He was employed as a sporting
goods salesman for Kensico Sports of White Plains, NY for thirty-four
years retiring in 1992. Bob was a world class slow pitch softball pitcher,
and avid golfer and bowler and loved the beach.
He leaves his wife of fifty-four years, Matilda "Judy" (Malvermi)
Ferris and his children Michael R. Ferris and his wife Celeste of Encinitas,
CA, Robin Ferris of Lake Forest, CA and Dawn Szlosek and her husband John
of Highland Village, TX. Bob also leaves his grandchildren, Jake, Stephanie
and Lauren Szlosek and Carly and Shelby Ferris, four sisters, Dorothy
Kavanagh Jessie Abrams and Nellie Palamarczuk all of Armonk, NY and Blanche
Mackenzie of Upper Jay, NY. He also leaves a sister-in-law Eleanor Ferris
of Pigeon Forge, TN and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 7 pm at Firtion-Adams
Funeral Service, 76 Broad St. Westfield, MA.
Interment in the Mass Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be at the convenience
of the family. Calling hours will precede the service at the funeral home
