Born on July 24, 1937, to the late Alex and Bess Felner, he was a graduate of Bassick High School, where he was on the varsity baseball team. He was subsequently drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates and played for them for more than seven years.
Felner was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves and attended the University of Bridgeport and the Warren Institute. He and his son, Rob, have owned and operated Sentry Fire Protection for the past 20 years.
In addition to his wife, Felner is survived by his two sons and their wives, Thomas and Kelly of San Jose, Calif., and Robert and Jennifer of Milford; granddaughters Emily and Abby; his mother-in-law, Thoma Nastu of Bridgeport; his brother-in-law, Michael Nastu, and his wife, Mary, of Fairfield; his sisters-in-law, Terri Trinkley and her husband, Ray, of Fairfield, Sophie Pittu of Fairfield and Nell O'Neill and her husband, Gene, of Bridgeport; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian burial today at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Church in Black Rock. Interment is private.
