SPRINGFIELD - Rudolph (Rudy) James Favero, 85, of Springfield, died at 4:05 am, Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born February 9, 1925 in Springfield, IL to Fortunato and Pasqua DalBello Favero. He married Eileen M. Pierard on October 20, 1945 and she survives. Also surviving are 4 daughters, LeeAnn (Ray) Cicci and Lynn Favero both of Springfield, Patricia (Paul) Burman of Chesterfield, MO and Cindy (Kevin) Velten of Virginia, IL; 2 sons, Kim Favero and David (Mary Ann) Favero both of Springfield, 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Irene Bourgasser and Hilda Micheletti both of Springfield; 2 brothers, Remus (Marie) Favero of Milbrae, CA and Renato (Rita) Favero of Springfield, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Raymond, Riserio and Robert; 3 sisters, Eda Meneghetti, Italia Plesh and Erma Cohn.

Rudy worked for Sangamo Electric for 30 plus years and was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Church. He was a 1943 graduate of Lanphier High School and former three-sport standout who earned nine varsity letters during his high school years. He played in the Boston Red Sox organization in 1944 -1945. He coached baseball and basketball at St. Cabrini for over 20 years. He officiated high school and small college football, basketball and baseball for 30 years. He was inducted into the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame in 1995.

Visitation: 4-7 pm, Monday, November 29, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home with prayers at 4:00 pm.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 am, Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at St. Frances Cabrini Church. Reverend Richard Chiola will be officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials in Rudy's memory may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
