Donald E. Ertz of Muhlenberg Township died Wed-nesday at 2:30 p.m. in his residence at the age of 77. At his side was his wife of 56 years, Rose (Whitehead) Ertz, his daughter, Dona E. Zeller of Center-ville, MD, and his son, Christopher A. Ertz, of Richmond, VA.

He has two grandsons, William Stablein (married to Katie Parsons) and David Stablein, and a great-grand-daughter, Emma Elyse Stablein.

Don was born Sept. 26, 1934, in Plymouth, PA.

He is the son of the late John G. and Mary R. (Dougherty) Ertz and was the youngest of four boys. His oldest brother, Francis J. Ertz, died in January and he is survived by two brothers, James Ertz of West Lawn and John Ertz of Peoria, AZ.

He graduated from the former Central Catholic High School in the class of 1952 and remained close friends with many of his classmates throughout his life. Don was always actively involved in sports. In 1952 he played on the Reading Gregg Post 12 American Legion State Champion baseball team and also played minor league baseball for the Phila-delphia A's in Canada.

He coached baseball for the Hyde Park MTAA baseball team for several years and retired in 1978 as a PIAA football official where he officiated for ten years.

Donald retired in 1999 with 22 years service from Carpenter Technology.

During his retirement he and his wife, Rose, were avid golfers and enjoyed many matches with their family and friends.

Mr. Ertz was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. Friends and relatives may call Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mil-kins Giles Funeral Home, Inc., Temple.
