RICHBURG - Mr. Hugh
Gray Ernandez, 78, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at his home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at First Baptist
Church of Richburg, with the Rev. John Parris officiating and the Rev.
Chase Catledge assisting. Interment will follow at Lando Cemetery in Lando.
Mr. Ernandez was the son of the late Robert H. Ernandez and Maudie Mae
Black Ernandez. Hugh Gray was a member of First Baptist Church of Richburg
and a retiree of the Celanese Corp. He was a 1953 graduate of Lewisville
High School. He played pro baseball with the Rock Hill Chiefs. An avid
dirt track stock car racer in Rock Hill, Lancaster, Gaffney, Gastonia,
Monroe tracks, he won the sport's points championship in 1962. He loved
everybody, but especially his family.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Willette Dawkins Ernandez; his son
Hugh Gray "Hughie" Ernandez Jr. and wife, Deborah; his brother,
Wayne Ernandez and wife, Angela; his sister, Sara Ernandez Love and husband,
David; and his sister-in-law, Betty Millwood Ernandez, all of Richburg;
four grandchildren, Christina, Tripp, Miranda and Dillon; and four great-grandchildren,
Caitlyn, Mikayla, Mark and Trey. He was preceded in death by his brother,
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 26,
2011, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock
