ENGLISH, JOHN K. "JACK"
87 - died on October 3rd at Sunrise Assisted Living in Galloway, while
under hospice care. Born in Northfield on September 23, 1921, John was
one of 12 children born to Alexandria and James English.
He was a 1941 graduate of Pleasantville H.S., where he was a four letter
athlete in football, basketball, baseball and track and field. During
World War II he enlisted in the Army Air Corp where he learned to fly
planes and gliders.
After the service, he was signed by the New York Giants Baseball Organization
and played for a number of their Minor League teams. John was self-employed
most of his life as a general contractor.
John was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching both the Phillies and
Eagles teams. He was a volunteer coach for the Northfield Little League.
He also loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors.
John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth; his daughter, Jill
English of Limerick, ME; his son, John of Margate; grandchildren: John,
Ryan and Ashley English of Kinston, NC; sisters Dorothy Turner of Linwood
and Ann Conklin of Egg Harbor; and brother Robert of Venice, FL. Funeral
services will be held on Wednesday, October 8th, at 11:00 a.m. at Adams-Perfect
Funeral Home, 1650 New Road, Northfield.
Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial
will follow in Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery, Estell Manor.
