William H. Ehrhardt,
age 87, passed away December 22, 2012, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born
September 19, 1925, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Clarence and Hilda Ehrhardt.
He was a Tech Sergeant in the Army and served in World War II in the European
In his early years Bill had numerous occupations including playing professional
baseball in California, Arizona and Texas and then semi-pro in Texas.
After working 34 years as a State Farm insurance agent, he retired at
the age of 70. He loved sports especially coaching youth baseball and
watching his "beloved" Cowboys. He also thoroughly enjoyed golfing,
hunting and fishing.
As an active member in the Catholic Church, Bill participated in the Holy
Family Guild and Knights of Columbus, was a Minister of the Eucharist
and a Lector, worked with youth through CYO, religious education and youth
choir and he was one of the founders of Pre-Cana, a precursor to today's
marriage preparation classes. For his involvement and dedication he received
recognition from Pope Paul II in 1983.
As Father Tom McGettrick wrote in his book "Inspired by Others",
"Bill. that as he looks back on his long life, he must know that
he has spent it well-as one of those people who have 'really got it right'
when it comes to doing what is good".
He was married 63 years to Johanna Ruchti, who preceded him in death.
Bill was also preceded in death by his brothers, C.A. and Robert, children
Diane and Bryan and grandson, William "Trey" III.
He is survived by his sons, Bill, Jr. and wife Deborah, Rick and wife
Nancy, Dave, Keith Burt and wife Tina; and daughters, Barbara and her
husband Michael and Nancy and her husband Michael; sister, Mary Gueringer
and her husband Bob; twelve grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM on Sunday, December 30, 2012 with a Rosary
to be recited at 7:00 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Chapel at the Village at
Incarnate Word on Monday, December 31 at 12:30 PM followed by interment
at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trey Ehrhardt
