Jeffrey Wade Edwards, a longtime Redlands resident, died Sept. 28 in Gilbert, Ariz. He was 44.

He was born Nov. 16, 1963 in Tucson, Ariz. He lived in Redlands from 1970 until a recent job-related move to Gilbert, Ariz.

"He lived and breathed sports," his family said. "He started very young with Baseball for Boys at Community Field in Redlands. He went on to become an outstanding catcher at Redlands High School. At Cal-Poly Pomona he helped his team earn a Division II World Series championship.

After college he was drafted by Houston Astros and played until an injury ended his baseball career.

"He returned to Redlands, becoming a loving husband, devoted father, treasured son, brother and uncle."

He is survived by wife Dalila, son Zachary and twin daughters Madison and Morgan of Gilbert, Ariz.; daughter Sable and son Tanner of San Bernardino; mother Sylvia of Redlands, sister Janet of Tucson, Ariz., and brother Mike of Calimesa.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16 at St. Mary's/Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 1214 Columbia St., Redlands.
