Joseph Zaikowski Joseph "Dykes" Zaikowski, 95, of Dickson City, died Thursday at the Dunmore Healthcare, where he had been a resident. His wife, the former Margaret Boroushak, died in 1973. Born in Dickson City, son the late Anthony and Stephanie Zaikowski, he was a lifelong resident of Dickson City and a graduate of Dickson City High School. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II and a past member of local American Legions. Prior to retirement, he was a pipefitter for the Pennsylvania Gas & Water Co. He was a member of the St. Mary's Visitation Church in Dickson City. In his younger days, he played third base for the St. Louis Cardinals Triple-A farm team. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching baseball and football. Surviving are two sons, Jan Zaikowski and wife, Vanessa, Scranton; and Dr. James Zaikowski, Great Neck, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Anna Zaikowski; two grandsons, Michael and Dane Zaikowski; a sister, Arlene Cellerari, Hyde Park section of Scranton; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Zaikowski; and three sisters, Jean Petrotta, Bridget Persell and Stella Cherney. The funeral will be Monday at 9 a.m. from the Yurkanin Funeral Home, 1115 Main St., Dickson City, with Mass at 9:30 in the St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City. Interment, St. Mary's cemetery, Dickson City. Friends may call Sunday, 5 to 7 p.m. |
