Buster was the loving husband of Estelle (Belmonte) Durand, who passed away Jan. 27, 2002.
He was born in Newark, N.J., on Nov. 13, 1927, the son of the late Benjamin and Christina (Behan) Durand.
Buster had worked as a dispatcher for a parcel delivery service in Kearney, N.J., for 40 years until retiring.
He served our country with dedication and courage in the United States Army during World War II. After the war, Buster was a professional baseball player, having played for the Yankee farm team as a pitcher in Columbus, Ohio.
He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gilbert.
Buster was an active volunteer for the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network.
May we always remember the joy, kindness and his gentle heart he so willingly shared with others. He will be deeply missed by his children, Kevin Durand and his wife, Krystyna, of Bridgewater, N.J., David Durand and his wife, Jessica, of Saylorsburg, and Karen Durand of Madison, N.J.
He was a loving and gentle Pa-Pa to his four grandchildren, Christine Teixeira, Danielle Kovacs, David and Kevin Durand; and his five great-grandchildren, Alexander Teixeira, DJ Brown, Davonne, Damon and David Durand.
Buster was preceded in death by his brother, Eddie Durand.
Funeral services will begin 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 9, at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Route 209, Gilbert, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gilbert.
Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at the funeral home with vigil prayers and military services.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, N.J.
